1.
I started off with a blank canvas and dragged in the main image on my contents page which is continuing from my from cover feature. I felt the tilted high angle shot combined with my model's shades and effortless pose created an edgy, 'bad girl' attitude. This is the look and characteristic that I was aiming for.
2.
I then created a box as a background for my contents page title. I felt that the grey colour went well with the colour scheme of my image.
Having done that, I added my title - it was pretty basic displaying 'contents'. However I added some slight flares to it by incorporating the same type of lines from my masthead into that title. I wanted to present a clear and iconic link with the pages.
I also added a shadow effect for my image by creating a light grey box with the shape tool and placing it underneath. It just added a bit more interest to the image.
After that I added a quote from my magazine article by one of the band members. It was something that would've briefly hinted the topic of the article. And I added a little explanation of that feature article's content.
At the top right, I also included a miniature version of my masthead (from what I've seen was included in other magazines) and the issue date.
As well as this, I boosted the contrast in tones and light. I always love the depth it creates and it makes it sharper.
5.
Having done this, I then looked at magazines such as Kerrang and NME magazine for more inspiration on the layout and features of my contents page. I Then went on to create a bold section that showcases a subscription offer that I have previously seen in an NME magazine.
Here I also started to create my magazine sections and add in some sub images onto the page.
6.
After that I took the original photo that I wanted to edit.
7.
Afterwards I decided to mix up the images in my magazine, I would crop out the background using the magnetic lasso tool which worked perfectly.
8.
I progressed a lot and included all of the sub images that I had. I placed them at alternating angels because I thought it made for a better aesthetic.
9.
Since then, I started to include some page numbers into the sections. My page numbers show where the section starts from. I had seen that many indie/rock magazine controlled their page numbers in this particular way.
10.
I continued to add page numbers, carefully thinking about the appropriate spacing regarding potential page content.
I also decided to take a new photo for one of my sub images. I felt that I needed to experiment more with different amounts of people in my shoots, so I included a group of 3 women.
11.
Here I added some flares to the page using the shapes available on photoshop. I included the target behind the 'peak into the next issue' title because I wanted to create the connotation that the next issue is something that the consumers would be aiming to get. In addition to this, I used arrows to indicate links with the sections/artists and the sub images.
I also changed the the layout of the text in the 'regulars' section as there was a blatant empty space on the page which didn't look too good.
12.
So this is the print screen of my final changes to my contents page. I just made a minor change to the layout of the columns in the 'regulars' section again. I just felt that the 'fan mail' part would be better placed on the left column as opposed to the middle.
